Do some men think they have to know it all? Is it so horrible to refer to a manual now and then?

My neighbor had a flat tire on his new truck this morning, and struggled for 20 minutes to release the spare tire from under the truck bed. I have the same truck, only one year older. I peeked in my manual to find he was using the wrong side of the wrench in the key.

I understand his thinking, since the tool used in the key has changed on the newer models, but struggling for 20 min is just plain stubborn! After the second try failed, why couldn't he just have checked his manual and been done with it?

Is this like asking for directions guys?

Is it the challenge? Is it refusal to confess or accept that you don't know it ALL? Or, do men just like pulling their hair out? ohwell

HA! Too funny, but I guess it is definitely a "Man Thing"
I remember being on vacation with my parents and Dad refused to listen to me when I was looking at the map while he drove. We ended up 120 miles out of our way before he admitted that he should have taken the route that I saw on the map. laugh That was about 30 years ago and I never let him live it down laugh

Years ago my brother in law and his wife were invited to our summer place. I gave him very detailed directions, naming several landmarks (stores, etc) I listed every road he was approaching and named each exit with number and name. We waited 9 hours for him to come and kept calling him with no answer. Long story short, he arrived very upset. My sister in law got out of the car with makeup running down her face from crying. He wouldn't even let he use a restroom because he wanted to get here already. He told me I gave him the wrong exit but he was on a totally different road taking him miles out of the way. MEN.....what is the problem?

I will say that I do read the manual a lot of times EXCEPT for video games....I just go with the flow with them. It's no fun to play a game and know how to do EVERY SINGLE MOVE when you first start.....But, yes, I do read manuals.....very good question though....drinker flowerforyou

Good question. I'll use a map, no worries there, and as for pulling my hair out...ahem...

I feel like I am mechanically inclined, so most times it "appears" to be a no-brainer. Most times it is easy, but there are those times when things are not what they appear to be, hence...yeah, I guess I could have saved an hour by reading the manual. I don't think it is because I am stubborn, or full of myself at all.

Phew!I'm glad U used the word "some"because not all of us fit that mold. When I construct anything it is by the #'s & prints.I find it much more practical & wise not 2 mention less time consuming by getting it right on the 1st attempt.Perhaps that makes me old fashioned or set in my ways but logic has always been my best companion.(imo)In the case that U mentioned I would refer back 2 the manual immediately rather than damage or strip the hardware.Godspeed!Cy:wink: flowerforyou

Pulling hair out...funny! I didn't mean "know it all" in that manner. It just seems that some men think that they are supposed to know everything, and to admit that they don't is a sign of weakness or something. flowerforyou
