To me multiplicity is more than just "changing your mind" by friday, its actually having more than one completely different personalities, along with different mannerisms, walks, even sex. Everyone has different parts to their personality, for example, a shy person can be outgoing and gregarious in certain situations and vice versa.......multiplicity??? Leave that to Sybil!

i don't think it's a matter of having different personalities per se. it's a matter of being familiar with the different aspects of the self.... "know thyself." for instance, i am somewhat of a dichotomy, having many facets to my personality expressed in beautiful balance. I am serious, silly, intense, relaxed, wise, seeking, knowing, curious, humorously sarcastic, gentle, direct, compassionate. i am an integrated person, despite the different ways i express myself at any given time. i am whole, despite dichotomy.

I know you are just trying to joke around here, but the majority of people who hear voices do not think they are part of them. And they rarely acknowledge to others that they are there. Schizophrenia is not a joke, IMO. |

Schizophrenia and Multiple personalities are 2 entirely different things.....and dont get me started on dementia.....oh god I have to go to work today!!

Ummm... I agree, but I got to come in as well with there is no such thing as "Multiple Personalities". It went bye bye... and has been replaced with a DX known as Dissociative Identity Disorder. As well, it is a hugely controversial DX as many mental health professionals doubt it even exists. |

As well, it is a hugely controversial DX as many mental health professionals doubt it even exists. I'm sorry....but 5 of us are standing alone in this room.... wondering ......WTF do they Know??? |

I think there are so many mis diagnosed mental diseases....and some run into another....its really confusing and hard to treat. I have one patient who is severely violent but when on medication, at the right times and right amount can be quite pleasant.

Please google this and understand. It is not funny to make a joke on a topic and then have it be inaccurate. It perpetuates inaccuracies and furthers the stigma of mental illness. You are talking apples to oranges, people. |

Schizophrenia and Dissociative Identity Disorder are totally different things, and, have nothing to do with the article and the original question posed. From my understanding the original article is in reference to the general population, not to people who have severe and persistent mental illness. And yes, what lilith is saying is crucial!!! I believe Totage is referring to our moods and whims taking on personalities of their own and labelling them. Jokes, especially inaccurate and discriminatory ones... are not relevant. IMO |

opps sorry for getting off topic.
Actually I just think we all have mood swings not Multiple Personalities. One day we may like something or want to do it the next after we took time to think about it we change our minds. At times we say things or agree to things before we actually think things out and at the time it is the best thing to say. Then we regret it cause we end up backing out on it. If nothing else at times even Depression will cause one to have mood swings. |
