1,300 Iraqi Troops, Police Dismissed
By Slobodan Lekic The Associated Press Monday 14 April 2008 Baghdad - Iraq's government moved Sunday to restore discipline within the ranks of the security forces, sacking more than 1,300 soldiers and policemen who deserted during recent fighting against Shiite militias in Basra. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/feedarticle/7460013 These were the 1000 or so previously reported to have abandoned battle when coming up against their own. I guess it would be hard to see them as the enemy if they are just like you. My biggest concern here though is that Maliki got a legislation approved that will ban Al Sadr and his crew from voting in the upcoming elections. That is not how a democracy works. They have no understanding of how to run a democracy. What a mess we have created |

They have no understanding of how to run a democracy. What a mess we have created So how do you run a democracy? You do not limit the citizens votes because you disagree with them or at least that is how we do it here in our democracy that people say is not a democracy but a republic and then that makes even less sense to why we are democricizing them. |

The coward Al Sadr though has fled to Iran deserting his men unlike George Washington. Al Sadr thought he could be the next dictator. Too bad and thank goodness Sadr city is finally getting cleaned up of thugs. And to equivilate the two is insane. And remember Saddam could have still been in power if he had only let the inspectors due their job!

What do you think would have happened to Washington had we lost the Revolution! Do ya reckon they would have held him as a hero??? History is written by the victors!! |

The clean up battle is going on right now. Al Sadr could have chosen to be a part of the political process but since he wanted to rule all of Iraq ........ Maybe he should have asked Khadafi for advice......

Actually - if you happen to read the aforementioned amendment that is being proposed, it bans ANY party that holds direct ties to militia groups.
And yes - while I would surmise due to the nature of the region and people, they all have ties to some militia. But currently, only one - Al Sadr - is using his to make himself a little warlord and trying for a take over coup. But I guess if you live in Camelot - you would expect everyone to play nicely at all times, and would not be able to figure out why "they just won't play fair" *sigh* |

In any democracy Al Sadr and his thugs would be in jail!!! I know In the British Colonial Gov. George Washington and co. were thugs!! That's not true at all. George Washington was respected as a great leader. George Washington never had a child murdered and placed a bomb into the corpse. Everyone is stupider for having read your relativist comparison. Reading such foolishness is the price we pay for freedom of speech. |

Sadr City is the largest area of Bagdad. Home to 2.4 million shia's. Loyal to Sadr. Thats not counting the majority of shia's in Iraq qhich account for 2/3 the pop of Iraq.
Sads has at least a 60,000 man army! |
