So like I was talking to this guy who I met through a friend...we hung out a few times and he said he really liked me, that he wanted to be with me, that he would never hurt me...all this shyt...then all of sudden he doesn't call me(well his phone was broke but he could have used someone elses), he doesnt even email me or respond to my emails...then I go over to his house yesterday and he tells me he is getting married?! WTF is up with that? I'm sick of little boys. Almost every guy has acted like a little boy and I'm tired of it...I need a real man...

Sorry to hear that -- and I can totally understand because I have run into the "person-talks-good-but-the-behavior-is-totally-inconsistent" scenario, too.

OK, so the way I figure it, anybody can say anything. So somebody says "I want to be with you and I'll never hurt you," that's no more believable than "I am a giant armadillo and I can shoot laser beams out of my ears." Great, now prove it. If you can't prove it, shut up and try another subject.

The world is full of idiots, and not all of them are on dating sites (although it seems like it sometimes). As you've seen, even people you meet through a friend can be liars and worse. I've run into that, too; although, to be honest, the people I've met through friends tend to be a lot easier to get to know than people from dating sites.

All I can say is don't dwell on it too much and don't let it dissuade you from trying again. There must be some good people left in the world. That's what I keep telling myself anyway....

I'm starting to notice a pattern with men who say that. What's with that?

It's a pick-up line. Usually a giveaway for hurt down the road, it is an impossibility to not hurt someone in a relationship...therefore this line shouldn't be believe until you give someone time to prove it, there are varying degree's of a person, when someone says this make sure they know all of the angles you have and haven't hurt you before believing these words...mind you this will probably never happen.
