“Its time” she said and off they raced
To begin a life as parents, such a precious blessing In the doors they flew soon machines were attached Something is terribly wrong, that heart rate keeps falling Soon-to-be parents grow more frantic by the second A hospital bed is wheeled down the hall Maneuvered through operating room doors Doctors move skillfully A tiny life is hanging in the balance After what seems like hours the tiny being is retrieved Three months early, only two pounds one ounce Stricken with pneumonia young parents fear for their baby's life Finally they brought the little one home She had beaten the odds What an amazing miracle And still she must wonder where her father is Why did he leave? Does he not remember that nearly ill-fated day? When that little heart was just growing weaker And God almost called her home to stay? When at last that baby cried Did he not wipe tears of relief and joy From weary eyes? Her father is not the only one in question For as she grew, feelings of hatred and emptiness followed Yes that little miracle felt unwanted, I guess her mother too forgot That day when time stood still as She lie on her back staring at the ceiling Silently praying that her baby will live Because with a forked tongue she raised that child During a fit of rage Regret of ever having her seeped through clenched teeth Poisonous words stained that little broken heart Such a shame it was That little miracle felt like nothing at all Today she's finally thriving Away from all that caused pain Sometimes in the quiet of the early morning Her mind begins to reel. The doctors worked frantically to save her that day Still her mother favors the younger three And her father... He appeared once Claimed to want her Then vanished again Can't either of them remember that nearly ill-fated day When god almost chose her to come home forever |
