I was wondering if anyone has had a mri done on their neck and spine, moreless a cervical mri, as some of you know that i had posted on here that we thought it might had been my rotator cuff well it is fine and now i had this other mri done. Because the pain in my arm and shoulder has not gone away yet. Especially after they gave me the cortisone shot in my shoulder he said that would have helped it but it did not. so back to the dr. i go again

I had one done for a ruptured disc in my neck. Same thing, I had pain all the way down my arm into my fingers. The cortisone shot they gave me started working by the next day, and by the end of the week I was pain free. Its not really a cure for the problem, but the steroids do relieve pain. I still have constant problems with my neck and shoulder. Sometimes if they dont inject it close enough to the problem area, you may not have good results

I have been through all of that. I was in a car accident in the past. I have had a few cervical MRIs and a mylogram (sp?).

I received a rotator cuff tear from the accident. Aren't those cortisone shots painful?

When you get the MRI, you will find it to be a relief to find out what's wrong.

I had an MRI done on my spine for scoliosis. The biggest surprise is that it was an hour and a half long; it was my first MRI and many people had told me MRI's only take like 20 minutes. I'm slightly claustrophic so it wasn't the greatest experience of my life, but it wasn't too bad. I think it's just like any other MRI - just longer. Good Luck.

The Dr. will give one Valium to take before the MRI to relax the claustrophobic people.

mri's arent so bad anymore. They do have open mri machines now. Ya might have to look around to see where they are available.

please be careful getting shots. its a quick fix to an underlying problem. i've had alot of friends that have done the shot thing and it made matters worse not better.

They wanted to give me shots for my knee and I refused. I deal with it and the next time it blows out I will be going to a different doctor for a second opinion.

FYI - My Dr. didn't like the results from the open MRIs. He said that they were not as clear and accurate as the traditional MRIs.

I've had the cortisone shots, not bad and it did help. Had one that I didn't even feel it at all. They told me this dr was good..Also had lower back surgery with MRI's. Had a fusion of lower 3 vertebra and have metal brace in my back..very seldome do I have any pain but you do have to be careful what you do...Although some people say not to have the surgery, it was the best thing that ever happened to me...

OMG - 4?!!! I had one about 15 years ago. I was a fortunate one - not. The spinal fluid leaked and caused the worst headache. They kept me overnight. When I got home, I had to crawl on my hands and knees to let the dog out. The headache was that awful.

ok. Thanks then. The thing is... I did not say it was better. I just stated that they are out there. flowerforyou I know our MRI machine at the local hospital was very old and not clear. They got the new open mri and most seem to like it. When mine was done I had the older machine.

Smilingeyes, I wasn't saying you were wrong.flowerforyou

I was just telling what my Dr. said . Just another opinion. I previously had a different Dr. that didn't care which one was used. Different opinions.

I have had an open MRI. It is more comfortable.

flowerforyou nope. I understand completely Winx. I dont know very many doctors that agree on anything. One says one thing another 5 say 5 different things. I've never had an open mri myself but being somewhat claustrophobic my experience wasnt that bad.. thats just because my head and face were out of the machine. otherwise I would have freaked bigsmile
