I have seen a lot of post in the threads about respect some make it sound like we should respect people just for being a person. I think respect is something that must be earned. And should only be given to people who are respectable. ( Decent, law biding , good hearted people who's actions do not harm others ) If we respect a person just for being a person. Then respect really has no meaning or value.
That is what I think. How about you do you agree or disagree.

I'd have to say I agree with you on that one. Respect is far different from being polite. I am polite to people I do not know, but I do not respect them yet because they've yet to earn it. So many say you have to give respect to get respect, and I agree with that statment, and follow by it.

Is there such a fine line between respect and disrespect, because you wouldn't treat someone you didn't know well with disrespect until they proved worthy of your respect would you? noway

I think that is common courtesy. Respect, is a bit more involved.

Ok, I'm seeing common courtesy as a form of respect. It's all about definitions really. I concede. happy
