I think the real problem with Hallmark/Disney notions of love is the "love will conquer all" message. Love doesn't conquer all. We still have different goals, and lives to live, and sometimes those things don't intersect the way we might hope. But that doesn't make love any less real; in fact, that's a more real version of love.

I think love exists for us all, at different times. My thoughts on eternal love have been dampened, but may renew.

I feel like Walt Disney set me up for failure. I watched all of his movies as a little girl, but reality has taught me something very different about the L word. I'm starting to believe that it is something Hallmark made up. I almost cringe when I hear the L word from a guy. What's your take? I still believe in it -- as ethereal and elusive as it is. But only because there have been times when I found myself right there in the middle of it, completely enfolded in it, as if in a blanket. A blanket you never want to get out of. I'm more skeptical now. Say the words all you want but it will take a lot more than that to convince me. There is something even stronger than skepticism, though. And no one is more surprised by that than I am. |

I think when it comes to intimate relationships, "I love you" has two translations; "I love having sex with you," and "I actually love you." The difficulty is knowing which applies, or when it changes.

I haven't heard that said to me in a long time. I try to stop them before they say it because when you've only known me 2 weeks...you don't LOVE me. If you don't know my middle name is Morgan or that my moms' name is Molly..I'm from Texas...I hate beets...I love massages..and I'm currently listening to Bob Marley and frequently hum "Don't worry about a thing... because every lil' thing is gonna be alright" then, there's no way you could know what "Love" is with me. I guess the ex messed me up a bit. |
