My approach to oil changes has always had nothing to do with the miles or time, just when I feel like it. Is there anyone else like this??

And, no, this isn't an April Fool's thing.

How can you feel like it's time?

3K to 5K miles maximum, if it takes longer for time do it at 5 months

I feel like changing the oil when my car starts running differently, or if I'm bored that day. I have a 1993 Eclipse and my strategy has worked so far.

te oil change rule, of 3000miles is out dated. that was for a time when oils didnt have the good attitives that the have know. Engines are much better now too.5,to 7000 thousand. Just pull the stick every couple weeks to make sure your not burning oil.

That's not a rule, rather it's a myth. Manufacturers of Oil and the Vehicles themselves strictly changed that to present the crs now as Low Maintenance Vehicles now as a selling tool. Even the brand new cars use almost a quart of oil from 800-1200 miles. It's perfectly normal, including the $50.00 synthetic oils....Play it safe and cahnge it every 3000, it's worth the $30.00 to $40.00 every couple of months to have peace of mind

They only burn that oil during the break in period, then they shouldnt be burning oil. Synthetic oils dont burn at all. They might leak out the exhaust but they wont burn.

you ussually only need to change it every 300 if you drive on a dirt road or in traffic a lot ... but the best thing for your car is to change the oil on a regular basis its the most important part of your engine.. howevver if your doing before every 3000 your going a little over board

I'm replacing a motor in a customers van at work, because she never checks or changes the oil, this is the second motor I've put in this van, for the same reason

Not true in the least sir...DO a little more research on that

It will consume oil, higher compression engines even more. Some engines depending on the design will and can use that much between intervals...

Remember the rule, check your oil level at every fill up?

it won't work for too long if you're exceding the oil's life

The car is 100 years old for all intents and purposes. Who cares? I'm saving money and the environment.

do what you want, but i wouldn't go along that train of thought if i were you.

1.you'll wear your car out quicker and have to replace it sooner.

2.you either are or will get worse mpg than if you upkept the car propperly.

3.if the car doesn't now it will burn oil

oil is recycled when you get it changed. that is unless you do like many i've known and just go dump it on the ground somewhere
