I have a kodak Z740 digital camera and Windows XP .It did work, I used it to upload pics on here with. Did all the troubleshooting with no luck. I figure this brand new USB cable is the problem. Question is will a thumb drive take the place of the cable? I checked all of my USB ports, they work. Thanks in advance

As long as the drive is compatable with your camera, and your usb ports, it should work fine. Generally if it's newer equipment it's usb 2.0, and everything should work together... in theory.

I don't think you can connect your camera to a thumb drive, as that just wouldn't seem to work.

Here's what you CAN do, though-

First off, find out what kind of memory card your camera uses. It'll either be a CompactFlash card, or a MMC/SD, or something even newer.

Then go out to your local electronics store and get something called a "multiple memory card reader". It will essentially read whatever contents are on your card and give you the ability to copy the contents to your computer.

So- in essence- you'll be bypassing your camera-to-computer connection all together, which should eliminate any connection problems you've been having with it.

Just be sure the memory card reader is compatible with USB 2.0, as you'll be pulling your hair out at the slow speeds an older USB 1.0 reader.

if you camera has a data card

and if you have a photo printer

your printer may have a card reader in it

I have a lexar card reader that attaches to a usb port. I just put my little camera floppy in that and upload the pics.

Love XP's plug and play. If you can plug it in, XP seems to know what it is.
