Although I'm sure it's something a lot of PC users hear often, buy a Mac. I have a Powerbook that's about 10 years old, and although I am going to likely buy a Netbook (running Linux) soon, my computer is still very capable - 400 MHz processor, 512 RAM, 20 GB hard drive, with a DVD-ROM (that doesn't work, mind you).

I can't watch Internet videos (lag), but it's no big loss, per se. lol I need more PORN!

The I-10 and DeZavala area is really nice, very yuppie (Fox & Hound pub, a few sports bars, Flying Saucer [high-end beer place], etc). There's a lot of great housing in the area - apartments and homes. If you're looking for old houses with character, duplexes and the like you won't find many, mostly new ('80s and up) construction and within subdivisions, or apartments - around $600+, up to about $1000/mo., for a 2 bedroom. I assume, since you mention school districts, you have children and would need the space.

You can rent a home, which would probably be your best option, and there's plenty of those options around for you. As to schools, some of the best are in that area. Hobby Middle School. Clark High School. I'm sorry, I don't know of the elementary schools, although I'm certain they are safe and well-ranked.

I am black, so I notice race issues / relations, and I will say that the area to which we're referring is very, very white. That's not exactly a bad thing, and it (frankly) usually means good schools, few gangs, some drugs but nothing too serious, etc. I don't know how old your kids are, and thus how much these issues apply to you. Nonetheless, it might prove helpful.

Other than www.moveforfree.com, there's also bradfieldproperties.com, which has a number of listings for houses and apartments. Of course, Craig's List has a number of listings for apartments and options in the Medical Center (a five minutes - or less - drive from your potential work neighborhood). The Medical Center, by the way, has a number of opportunities for housing, dating, socialization, etc. I-10 and Wurzbach. There's a SuperTarget, Dave & Buster's (adult / kids' mixed use gaming and fun place, mega-store), and an art film theater (Santikos Bijou) at Crossroads Mall, which is very near both DeZavala and the Med Center. I saw "The Reader" there last week (great movie, by the way).
