So there I was looking cute, feeling confident, ready for a chill wine bar meetup with a guy who seemed totally normal over text.
I show up. Order a nice red. And then… he walks in. With a woman. Who then sits at the table right next to us. With a book. Yep. It was his mom. She wasn't even hiding it. Just casually reading a paperback, stealing glances every 30 seconds like she was my date's secret service agent. I kept smiling. Asked him, "So… is she with you?" He said, "Oh that's my mom. She just wanted to make sure you were safe." Sir.
I finished my wine in about 4 minutes flat, told him I had an early morning, and walked right out. Politely. Because I'm classy like that. Now I always, always confirm: "Just to clarify you're coming alone, right?" Moral of the story: I love a protective family, but not on a first meet.
Tell me your worst date story I need to know I'm not alone.
