Because technology and Ai have become so rampant everywhere. Now people are too scared to talk or meet new people so they join the online world so they can lie to themselves about how they want to meet someone or make new friends irl. But knowing that they are just fooling themselves and other people who would genuinely like to make a connection.
That and Ai chatbots have sucked in every legitimate guy/girl who actually would like to meet someone. So now they can barely tell who is real or who is not anymore. Just a thought anyway lol. Sorry for rambling on.
