CONVERSATION WITH A BUTTERFLY
As I sat one day just doin' time Way too much life upon my mind A butterfly did come my way At my feet it rested on that day I looked at it - so simple, pure So unlike my life - this world So I asked this butterfly, you see "What's it like to be so free?" The butterfly stared at me in awe It said, "What kind of trip you on?" I said, "You just fly to and fro, and collect nectar to help you grow. The wind it blows you wild and true, you live so unlike my life, you do. Now, I really want to know for me, what's it like to be so free?" It said, "Yes I'll tell you, yes I'll say, You think that I'm so free each day. Such thousands plus of miles I roam, with nowhere that I can call home. Each animal I come across, from birds and frogs, and cats with paws, I'm so small and fragile yes indeed, It takes not much to destroy me! Whether for food or just for fun, I must move quick, but I can't run God gave me wings and fragile nerves to survive within this scary world". "My colors - blue, black, orange, and gold, They help me keep this life I hold God gave me all to buy me time, to insure I pass on all that's mine Yet in my search to pass on life A journey of trials - so many do die!" Its wings unfurled, and it took flight It paused in front of face and sight Its parting words were true and grim, It said, "We're all stuck with the shape we're in! Let's make the most of each our lives If you will, I will, and by and by Let us never falter on each our paths Let's not worry about what we don't have". "Within each world all life's the same For large or small it's not a game Let us live our lives and do our best To pass this message on to all the rest!" I was in so in tears by this time, see This tiny creature had humbled me I have so much freedom it won't know So many nectars to help me grow I have tools in words, and deeds, and prayer And I decided as I sat right there If I never forget this insects words I will never again think this life absurd I ran after it - a shouting fool, I said "I have learned so much this day from you, and you'll probably never speak again, but know so well this day you have helped a friend!" |

FIREFLIES, BUTTERFLIES
All the colors swirling around Without the slightest thought of crown So many do soil each sunny day Those who see, but look one way Fireflies, Butterflies So much the same Yet so different for the others sake Though time does pass, the colors swirl Demons howl within our present world When our futures haunt our dignity The howls that sound corrupt the free Fireflies, Butterflies Twice the same Yet so different for the others sake Unruly worlds beyond pure light Set the stage, the time is right New forms beyond the natural rift Parade such ways of pain their gift Fireflies, Butterflies So much the same Can it really be the only way? False confidence preludes all death So, to stifle halting breaths Give into vice, yet never rhyme So it is within our earthly times Fireflies, Butterflies Our lives the same To soar aloft on each new day All wonders of those real in time No match for fire in lovers eyes Please aide me unto times not sad Please let me hold my lovers hand Fireflies, Butterflies They never change They roll on through all life the same The sky that shows the brightest hues Not one time does it feel the blues Please help me find my way to see Life holds all truth - it is the key Fireflies, Butterflies They shall remain They fly each spring - endure their games The wind as it blows through the trees There's no concern about what it sees The clouds roll across a back-lit sky They never waver - do you wonder why? Fireflies, Butterflies A source of pure They lead me on a path so sure They walk upon their wind to be A sample of what life means to me |
