so i just got the hiccups AGAIN and i came back to this thread to find this exact post and the warm water WORKED!!! yay!!! now i can go to bed.

so i was just about to go to bed and i got the freakin hiccups! i've tried holding my breath and drinking something and they wont stop. now its even causing a headache. any suggestions? frown

My solution, and this has proven to have 100 percent effectiveness in solving hiccups. It has never failed me in the 2-3 years since I learned it.

Step 1: Pour a cup of moderately warm water.

Step 2: Holding your breath, put a modest amount of the water in your mouth. Hold it there, swallowing slowly.

Step 3: Repeat until the cup was empty.

This method is actually scientifically proven in Chinese medicine. I learned the technique from a Chinese roommate way back. Basically, as the water passes through the esophagus and into the stomach, the heat relaxes the muscles responsible for hiccupping, causing them to stop.

I did this just today to cure my hiccups, as a matter of fact.

Try a teaspoon of sugar. The sugar coats the esoughagus and decreases the spasms.

ive never heard of that one. worth a shot

It really works. I used on my child all of the time. It doesn't have to be a heaping teaspoon.

thats better than what my dad used to do. he would make me stare at a spot on the wall then hed scare the crap outta me trying to scare the hiccups away... surprised
