The secret? My parents grew up in Mexico.

Corn tortillas fried in corn oil, and lime. Lots of lime, all over the vegetables. Fresh salsa, not the sweet stuff. The chunky flavoury ones. Dash of salt and a bit of cream over the top.

I sometimes forget that as I get older, you do too. You're 13 now and it's kinda like in my head when I picture you it's like you're still this mouthy little 2yr old mini me or a kindergärtner with curly pigtails and crayons. It's like now as an adult I see how much of me is really in you and I'm both proud and horrified. I know what it's like to feel your feelings, think the way you think, mouth off like you do. You're smarter than me though, and you'll have the push of an anal retentive mother and a crazy fun step dad so I'm not too worried about you. One day I'm going to have my own daughter and I hope she's like you. Because it'd be like living in a summer storm. For all the bluster and rain in that storms chaos, you always get that glistening fresh world and maybe a rainbow. Sometimes it's hard being honest with you, because I'm too direct and insensitive sometimes when I talk but I try my hardest. And I always will.
