To have predicted some of the influences on the language of today - from say ony 40 years back - would have required that you imagined mobile phones 25 years before they took off and smilies 12 years before the internet became sentient in 1983 when Tim Berners Lee created html.

Imho language evolves, as do we, for better or worse. Not long ago, the Romans didnt have a letter u or w, early use of those symbols might have seemed crass to the literati roman 'purist' of her day.
