Hmmmm i dont think i would be doing anyone a favour, i really wouldnt care where he came from or what race he was, as long as I loved him I would work it out, no favours just a relationship.happy

I like your kind of person, you believe in love, no matter what it'd cost you in getting a true love i guess. I hope you've gotten someone of like mind that believe in love and share same view as yours

Hear we go again, now're talking about feelings, but u talked about distance at first, isn't that contradictory?

Because it is impractical to try and carry on a relationship over long distances (my opinion). In any relationship quality time is found within a quantity of time and if the distance is to far lots of time together is near impossible.

I do believe in spending quality time together in a relationship, but what about the soldiers in the UN's troops that're presently fighting in Libya, Afganistan, etc. What should their spouses' do? Or sailors on the sea sailing around the world or professions that create little or no time for one's personal life. I have a friend, she's a Child care worker, she works in DC but lives in Virginia. Everyday she works for long hours and doesn't return home till weekend, and this is her regular routine. In as much as i believe in spending quality time together, i think a good relationship needs sacrifice, understanding and trust

@SilentlyScreaming you've been around here for a little more than 4yrs, what has ur experience been like?

well... i made tons of friends... i met someone, got engaged, moved out of state to be with him, and he treated me like crap, so i left... then came back and made more great friends...

Oh dear, that's not a good one to hear. I hope you'll get someone that'll know your worth, crave for you, treat you right and wouldn't want to see you go. Because some people don't just know what they want

From going through some people's experiences, i also think it might be because of insecurity due to the age differences. Because one of the spouse might think because of the age gap, the younger spouse might still be interested in dating from his peer group. Maturity matters, and sometimes insecurity sets in when one of the spouse feels the partners is more advantageous.

For me it's easy, I have children and most of the time I am more mature then them, not so much in how I act but just in myself.
I am past doing the things that I did at 18 or 20, yep mentally I am still immature, but my body is not going to want to run around like it did 20 odd years ago.
I enjoy my daughters friends who are in their 20's but I dont want to join in with their madness.
Personally I dont care what people think, but I wouldnt want a man who could easliy be one of my children or one of my childrens friends.

I believe it's more of a psycological effect on you. Because you might have kids in their late 20s maybe if you had your first kid at 16 but you wouldn't have mind dating a younger man in his late 20s if you have kids in their teens or no kids at all. I believe you're trying not to get your kids furious because of such decision.

This is a personal preference thing. I have an ex boyfriend who was 11 years younger(if it weren't for a few major personality flaws and lies that I caught him in)I had no problem being with someone that much younger. I think most people would use the 10 year rule, 10 years younger or older is about the limit that most would consider acceptable. BUT it is a matter of the preference, are they compatiblem their maturity levels, and if they want the same thing (marriage or not, children, etc.)
And I'm sorry but LOTS of people would complain that some 20 yr old is marrying an 80 yr old. (Anna Nicole Smith) I just cannot see how any two people with that many decades between them could really have anything in common.

You said he had some personal flaws, and i'm happy that wasn't due to his age. Who set the rules of 10years? I guess it's the people who made up the society and see it as an acceptable way. But i know some society who wouldn't frown at the scenerio of the 80years old man.
I know William Shakespeare's wife was older than him. I thought the saying 'what's good for the goose is also good for the gander shoulder apply in this case'

Afterall nobody complains if an 80years old man marries a 20 years old lady

You've got to be kidding. Everyone shakes their head, rolls their eye's, will say he's buying a young body and say she is wanting to inherit his money.

I've watched a couple on E! TV, although they weren't officially married but this lady had been his girlfriend for 10years. He is 80 while she is 30, and the man's children are all older than she is.
But is it really a bad thing to do dating someone of great age difference? @Indianadave4 can you pls tell me how young can you go in dating a lady?

Why's it that most women see it more of a taboo to date a younger man? One thing i've noticed is that most of these women don't have a cogent reason but they tend to follow the norm of the society. I've bot seen it anywhere or written in a book that the man must be older than the woman in a relationship. So, how young of a man can you date? Afterall nobody complains if an 80years old man marries a 20 years old lady.

Of course people would complain about that. He would be called a dirty old man and she would be called a gold digger.

Yes of course people will say that, that's why I said most people tend to do not what they really feel like but what the society had bestowed on them, smh

Ybcat1 of course they have to be similarities in goals and future plans, and like some have already said it's all about preference. And not all younger men are looking for sugar mama or cougar. You said in your 40s you never bothered about the age difference if it was legal, so why the sudden change in preference? Or are you saying there are no 20yrs your junior that might be willing to grow gracefully with you?

@SilentlyScreaming you've been around here for a little more than 4yrs, what has ur experience been like? I believe in qualities, character before beauty, and since i don't give up if at all not easily, i'm not afraid to reach out to the one i love, yes love is sacrificial. That's why i don't want to love someone that won't love me in return, it can be a pain in the butt. Because most people tend to love those that doesn't return their love but ignores those that loves them, hence the chasing continues.

Lex you're the real man, i said that because i've just known something about you, you don't give up easily on things, a go-getter and a never say never kind of person, i really like that about u. Waow! I must really commend you, 4 1/2yrs and u're still on, I guess you've said it all, you've seen results in here on mingle2.com and made some good friends better than those out here. Anyway, i desire something more than just friends as well but just like you, I'm gonna hang on for that datable person to hit me up someday, but i'm just thinking if i can hold on for almost 5yrs. Considering the fact that i've been 'date-less' for some time now....lolz

Lex i concur but i've been skeptical about the 'e-lationship' like u called it, does it really work anywhere in the world. I believe you've given it alot of tries yet you're still persistent, is it that you have hope in mingle2.com website?
Msharmony, ofcourse geographical differences is a major challenge. If some few miles away can bring couples up on Cheaters how much more thousands of kilometers away - no matter where, trust is an important tool in this. But i'm giving it a try because of my relocation soon, at least i wanna have some more new friends even if i don't get a date in here.
This happened for real, sometimes ago, i was walking on the street when a guy approached me, called my name and i looked at him with disdain because i've not seen him before, only for him to tell me he's one of my facebook's friend, just added him then and i haven't really went through is profile, i later found out he stays in my neighborhood and i see him quite often now. i still think social media sites is not that bad afterall.

Well i believe it should be a thing of preference but i've seen some profiles like that, streamlining their chances of geeting a date just because of age differences, hence my post.
The example sited in my post is just to say that it's acceptable in the society for an older man to date a far younger lady than the other way round, but i guess things are changing now

Msharmony, well u're right to the extent of proximity, cultural, ethnic and societal commons, but all these doesn't make a good relationship or reduce the percentage of divorce. Living far away doesn't mean i don't know what's happening in the society over there.

Lex I believe you know what's best for you, but I believe the 'e-thing' is meant to broaden our spectrum

Here is a poem i wrote, i hope nobody steals it.

With a strong gush
You flood my heart with love

With a rush
You took over my emotions

You engulfed my pains with love
Suddenly,
You took me over
And my emotions running deep
You outpoured yourself
And made me lean on you
You took me in
And gave me an abode in you
Oh!
What a friend i've found in you

You're right SilentlyScreaming, yes it's a dating site but there's a real world out here and even if we don't date because one cannot date everybody that comes one way. We can still make friends, but i'm not disregarding the fact that there are scammers everywhere communication occurs
