The expression "land of the Free" came from a time when America was just getting started. The people were coming from europe where there was a strict class system just coming out of feudalism. In America there was opportunity for anyone that worked for it and had the desire to grow financially. Since WWII the mutinational corporations have bought and paid for the political agenda and have exported this corporate feudalism to most of the western and third world. It is quicly becoming polarized between the rich and the poor all over again.
