I was planning on planting next month.

I'm thinking about lettuce, watermelons, green beans, corn on the cob, radishes, and tomatoes. Maybe strawberries.

Now you all have me thinking about sweet peas.

It snowed here, too, on Easter.

I never heard about starting a garden on Good Friday.
I think planting on Good Friday must be a southerncuston. We are ususally out of danger of frost by that time.It is especially true for root crops.I'd like to share a couple of ideas that have helped me and it you have any tips plaese pass them along.gardening isn't about how much I grow[I usually give most of it away] it's about watching nature work it miriacles. If you have any construction inyour area ask thme for any small peices of concrete wire[weilded wire]and short peices of re-bar.This works great for tomatoes and running vine type crops like string beans early peas. Also se if you can go through thier scrap wood.theses work great for stakes and most contractor will be glad for you to take it because they have to pay to haul it off.Young plants fill milk jugs with water and let the sun warm them.Doesn't seem to shock the plants like watering witha hose.Hope these help. Please send me your ideas

I had nver even heard of that. I have mint, thyme and basil growing year-round. does that count?

Herbs count I live in SC.The Good Friday thing is a tradition in the south. I start everything in the hot house and transplant when weather get warm. It's tough trying to decide wheather to Garden,Fish or Play Golf.Retirement is Hell.Decisions every day.

lol, you poor thing, how do you cope? lol, i'll trade with ya!

Haven't planted yet, good thing too it frosted here last night. The onions and potatoes would be fine, but the bell peppers wouldn't care for it lol. I was just thinking about this the other night, it would be nice to have a home and garden section, i will ask Mike if we can add that.
great idea I've had my onions'cabbage and early peas in for about two week. They are very cold tolerent.actually going to wait another week or so before I trnsplant tomatoes andthings.

As many of you may know, my son is a volunteer fireman/EMT.

I had today off from work. Early this afternoon I heard a very loud and heavy boom. Checked out my house, nothing wrong. Checked outside nothing wrong.

Unfortunately, there was something very wrong elsewhere in my neighborhood. One mile away a house exploded from a gas leak. A four year old little girl was thrown out of the house, across the street into a neighbor's yard. Her grandfather was thrown out of the house into the driveway and covered with rubble. Unfortunately, the grandfather died.

My son just called to advise me to keep away from that area of my neighborhood as natural gas is still leaking. Fifteen houses were damaged from the explosion. People were evacuated from the area and still are not allowed back to their homes.

My son's complaint was when he called me, was as the several different volunteer fire companies and EMT/ambulance companies were trying to do their job, there the media was up in their faces asking them for an 'official report'. Can you believe that? My son would not talk to them and asked to be left alone so he could do his job. They even showed the grandfather getting CPR. How cruel can they get, just for a story?

JUST FOR THE SAKE OF A STORY.
Glad you are ok.After being a cop for 20 yrs I understand your son's frustrations. There is an old adage " If it bleeds it leads".

while I don't share your enthusiasm I do respect John MaCain and I sure hope you are right.BTW I just listened to Huckabee's conscession speech and talk about a Class ACT.Not sure I would have voted fo him but he ran a great campain and he was gracious in defeat.

There will never be a person who fits eveyone's likes, etc. 100%.

I am a devout Christian, but no way did I want Huckelberry. That is all I have to say about him. But, I feel he might be chosen to run for VP because of the evangelical vote, which would be ME in the normal situation. But, I have great reservations about him.

That is true and I wasn't 100% comfortable with wome of Huckabee's idea's.The VP choice will be the key.IMO I have heard that Sanford of my state is being considered. Not sure about that one either.AS a back sliden' Baptist and ploitical independant I really don't have a dog in the fight.I just hope McCain doesn't pick Fienstein,Kennedy or Biden noway

My heart is leaping with joy!!! I just listened to his speech and any reservation (if any) I may have had are gone!

OK,now I know this will get a ton of bashing, but knock yourselfs out.

This is a man who knows how to fight terrorism, low taxes, small government, pro life, lower cost of health care (not force us to buy it and be told who to go to and when you can have what done) on and on......

"I owe my country every opportunity I have had." John McCain 3/4/08.

And, the man sacrificed his life and suffered for his country!!
