My cats got it made. Carpeted catwalks along the ceilings for them to bat at you from above, fresh bubbling fountain with filtered water, litter boxes with motion-sensor LED lighting, microchip-sensor pet door for anytime-access to a backyard Japanese garden with cascading water feature, bird feeders, squirrel feeder, and plenty of hiding spots and sunning spots. Put on some KISS music, get out the catnip and a laser pointer or slot car track, and what better party could a cat want? Free wet food! (Yep, the dumb human thought of everything.)

Why does a cat like sleeping under the covers? That's like asking why one person prefers a pickup truck while another prefers an Audi R8. Cats are as different as humans, and only your cat knows why it prefers under the covers rather than a different place - and it's not interested in telling you its reasoning, for you are merely the servant. Could be security, could be warmth, could be a lot of things. Each of my several cats has their own preferred place to spend the night (none of which are under any blankets), and fortunately my face is not one of those places. Well, at least not completely.
