I once chased a girl for a little over 2 years. 4 months into the relationship, she got my last name tattooed down her side from her bra line, to her waist. I proposed the next week thinking "this is it". WAAAY too soon, too fast. A life time is worth waiting for. Make sure the family thinks of them as "one of their own" and the same for you and their family before marriage too.

I prefer to wait 16 months before proposing (nobody's made it past 15 months, and I made the mistake of proposing to the wrong girl once too soon). After that, probably a year till tying the knot
