Why is there only one page of "online" members at any given time anymore? There used to be pages of members online all the time before. What happened?

When I click "on line" I am only seeing 1-2 pages of members in the USA at any given time.

Why has the number of members online in the USA at any given time now shrunk to less than one page? There used to be 5-10 pages of members online all the time. Disappointing to say the least.
