If it says no answer, most of the time I will assume they are actually married and avoid them.

maybe they have a complicated answer and would prefer to explain it personally. maybe they've...been separated for six years, but are staying married until the kids turn eighteen, as he's just a step-parent and would lose legal rights if divorce happened earlier. maybe...his wife is in jail. maybe he can't get a proper divorce until she gets out, and she's been in for ten...
