yellow,

Should I have personally read his book, I could recommend one.

That is not the case though...

I have read only what is available on the internet, mainly concerning the philosophy of the mind...

I will see if I can find the site which I enjoyed so much...

I haven’t read any of her books or other materials.

It looks like she’s into the business big time with radio shows, DVD’s and the whole bit.

Just glancing at her web site here:

http://www.myss.com/

I noticed two things just at a glance.

She says, “Explore your sacred contracts with the Universe”.

And she has a Video entitled “Your Power to Create”.

Just off the bat, it sounds like more of “The Secret” to me. The law of attraction, etc.

I’m convinced that this is key to spirituality.

So I imagine that she’s onto some pretty good stuff.

Hey, it’s clearly working for HER! bigsmile

Here’s her daily message for today: “When taking something personally, it’s time to shift into an impersonal consciousness”

In other word, “We are what we think”.
Or “We are how we think”
Or, “How we perceive and react to our environment defines our reality”
Or, “Life is what we make it”

Etc, etc, etc,…

All great points and quite valid.

These are basically the same things that were taught by people like Buddha, the 12 laws of karma, Jesus, and many other sages.

I’m not into reading books anymore. But if I had her videos I’d watch them. flowerforyou

It all boils down the “The Little Engine That Could”

If you understood that story, then your search for spirituality was completed on your mother’s knee. bigsmile

Perhaps,

Although I have another friend here who despises Jung's teachings and/or understandings...

Jung resonated well within me.

The term archetype was coined by Jung... I do believe...

OP,

Does your suggestion rely upon Jungian philosophy?

Jung also spoke of Architypes. He was a psychologist. Rival of Freud.

Abracadabra,

Her writings are very different from The Secret. The Secret focus on how to get what you want. Carolyn's writing are how to connect with one's Higher Power. What is it in your life that gives it meaning and purpose? And how the difficulties in your life our reflected in physical problems. It is Holistic in its approach to understand what our purpose in life is and what we do to shoot ourselves in the foot.

This probably comes down to our different perceptions of what “The Secret” is all about.

I’ll grant you that the video make it look like it was all about what you want on a superficial level. They also focused a lot about wanting physical things, and made it look like you could manifest a brand new expensive sports car just by dreaming about in a bathrobe whilst sitting in an easy chair.

There’s a lot more to it than that. I imagine that Carolyn’s writings probably go into the details in much more depth.

However, in the end, I think all she’s really doing is moving past the superficial level to gaining more insight in what you truly want rather than just going after superficial things. She probably is going to put that in terms of finding your purpose and if you feel that this is a higher purpose then all the more power to you. Higher simply means, “more than superficial”.

I’d like to watch some of her videos and see what she has to say. Unfortunately I don’t have DSL so I can't watch the free one, and I'm not really in the mood to be paying for them right now. laugh

But they sounds like they would be great.

Abracadabra,

As you read more of Carolyn's work you will realize that it is very different from "The Secret". Especially her latest work "Entering the Castle". "Anatomy of the Spirit" helps one realize the vast Spiritual resources that are within themselves and with various religious traditions. "The Secret", though interesting does not have the same Spiritual centering.

I agree with you, but only in terms of the "The Secret" video being short and incomplete. And perhaps not even as well presented as it should have been.

However, I still think the message is the same. All I'm saying is that we perceived the message of "The Secret" differently.

You seem to have taken it at the shallow level that it was presented, while I saw it as more as an ‘introduction’ to the basic idea.

I think if you watch “The Secret” very carefully you’ll notice that several of the speakers are indeed alluding to a deeper spiritual experience. I think the idea is just to get people pointed in the right direction. I don’t believe it was meant to be a complete thesis on the subject.

I have no doubt that Carolyn gets much more ‘spiritual’ with it.

However, I’ll be the first to agree that “The Secret” video was extremely superficial and made it sound like it’s just a gimmick to turn the universe into a huge mail-order house. In fact, in placed they even used that analogy.

So taking it from that perspective I would be the first to agree that “The Secret” video fails miserable to properly convey the true spirituality of the message.

Keep in mind that Carolyn is writing many books, doing many videos and is even involved with radio talk shows. She can cover much more detail.

“The Secret” was basically a two-hour quickie that was aimed at ‘revealing’ the basic idea.

So in all fairness, it can’t be compared with someone who is making a life-time career out of this.

But I still hold the basic ideas are the same. “The Secret” doesn’t deny God, they just didn’t delve into that aspect of it. They left that part up to the viewer and even told the viewer to choose that part in what ever way works for them.

Clearly Carolyn has chosen a particular path in that area and is sharing that path in more detail.

So in that sense she is ‘different’ from “The Secret”, but only because she’s giving more details to a particular path.

Based on “The Secret” even Christianity can be used. Jesus taught “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”. This is all that “The Secret” is saying. The only difference is that Christians will claim that it only works if you ask Jesus whilst the people on the video are claiming that it doesn’t matter how you think of the higher power.

They did, however, refer to a ‘higher power’ being in the works. So they aren’t denying that. They are just alluding to the idea that it doesn’t matter how you think of the higher power.

What does Carolyn have to say about how you must view the ‘higher power’?

On her web page she referred to the higher power as the Universe rather than as God

She says, “Explore your sacred contracts with the Universe”.

Seems like she was purposefully avoiding the word “God” there.

Have you read any of her books? Can you share anything about what she has to say about the higher power? Does she allude to a particular view of God? Does she point toward any particular religious beliefs, etc.?

I think the biggest thing being left out here concerning The Secret is the fact that one must feel like all thought will come to pass....

faith...

Nothing more, nothing less...
