The Masters Prayer what does it mean? Something you learn to recite? Or is thier a way deeper meaning that says so much in few words. Before Yahshua gives it remember he says why he is giving it and how and where to pray. Learn the promise and Jewel of these words. What are they? Blessings..Miles

Matt 6:5-13
And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

8 "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
Matt 6:12
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
NKJV

Here are the two things that stick out to me

1 he only asks for bread. Nothing more. He could have asked for a farm, place to raise grain and make bread to feed a family, but he just asked for bread.

The second thing is why would God lead us into temptation. It seems so weird, like he is just sitting there about to lead us off with great temptation. Of course as a youth and a young believer I looked at the females around me and was very tempted by Gods works. So maybe he does create some wonderful temptation.

1st: daily bread isn't asking for just bread. I believe it's asking for feeding us and remembering communion

2nd: God doesn't lead us into temptation. It is asking for his help to deliver us from evil and not let us fall into temptation

Here is a good break down of The Lord's Prayer

What does the Lord's Prayer contain?
It contains a short Preface and Seven Petitions.

What do you call its Preface?
These words: 'Our Father in heaven.'

What does the Father remind us of?
That God is our Father, so good and so worthy of veneration that there is no earthly father like Him; and that we, therefore, ought to pray to Him with a childlike reverence, love, and confidence.

Why do we say 'our Father', and not my Father?
Because, God being the Father of all men, we are all His children, and should therefore love one another as brothers, and pray for one another (cf. Mal. 2:10).

Why do we add these words: 'Who art in Heaven'?
To call to our mind, (1.) That God, though he is everywhere, dwells especially in Heaven, where we shall one day see Him face to face (cf. 1 Cor. 13:12) (see also the New Testament use of God and Heaven.) (2.) That we are but pilgrims upon earth, and that our true country is in Heaven; and (3.) That when we pray, we must detach our hearts from all earthly things, and raise them up to Heaven.

What do we ask for in the First Petition: 'Hallowed be Thy name'?
That the name of God may never be profaned or blasphemed, but that God may be rightly known, loved, and honored by us and by all men.

Why is this the First Petition?
Because we are to esteem the honor and glory of God more than all things else.

What do we ask for in the Second Petition:'Thy Kingdom come'?
(1.) That the kingdom of God, the Church, may be more and more extended upon earth; (2.) That the kingdom of divine, grace and love may now be established in our hearts, in order that, (3.) After this life, we may all be admitted into the kingdom of Heaven.

What is the meaning of the Third Petition:'Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven'?
We ask that we and all men may do the will of God on earth as faithfully and cheerfully as the Angels and Saints do it in Heaven; and We profess that, in all things, we submit ourselves to the holy will of God.

What do we ask for in the Fourth Petition: 'Give us this day our daily bread'?
We ask that God would give us all that is daily necessary for our soul and body.

Why does Christ bid us ask for our daily bread?
To teach us that we should wish only for necessaries, not for riches and abundance. "Having food and wherewith to be covered, with these we are content." (1 Tim. 6:8).

What do we ask for in the Fifth Petition:'Forgive us our trespasses, as We forgive them that trespass against us'?
That God would so forgive us all our sins as we forgive others who have offended us. (See Luke 6:37.)

May those who do not forgive expect forgiveness themselves?
No; on the contrary, they pass judgment upon themselves as often as they say the Lord's Prayer. "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." (See Mark 11:25)

What do we ask for in the sixth Petition: 'Lead us not into temptation'?
We ask that God would remove from us all temptations and all the dangers of sin, or, at least, give us grace sufficient to resist them.

By whom are we tempted to sin?
(1.) By our own flesh or concupiscence; 'for the flesh lusts against the spirit' (Gal. 5:17) (2.) By the World, i.e., by its vain pomp, bad example, and wicked maxims; and (3.) By the Devil, 'who, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking whom he may devour' (1 Pet. 5:8).

Why does God permit us to be tempted?
(1.) To keep us humble; (2.) To try our faithfulness or to punish our unfaithfulness; and (3.) To increase our zeal for virtue, and our merits.

'Lest the greatness of the revelations should exalt me, there was given me a sting of my flesh, an angel of Satan, to buffet me' (2 Cor. 12:7). 2. "[F]or the Lord your God tries you, that it may appear whether you love him with all your heart, and with all your soul, or not." (Deut. 13:3). 'Blessed is the man that endures temptation; for when he bath been proved he shall receive the crown of life, which God bath promised to them that love him' (James 1:12).

Is temptation in itself a sin?
Temptation in itself is not a sin; but to expose ourselves heedlessly to temptation, or to yield to it, is a Sin. For our consolation and Instruction, Christ Himself allowed the Devil to tempt Him (See Matt. 4:1-11)

What must we do in order that we may not yield?
We must especially watch and pray, as Christ our Lord says: 'Watch and pray that you will not fall into temptation' (Matt. 26:41).

What do we ask for in the Seventh Petition: 'But deliver us from evil'
That God would preserve us from all evil of soul and body, especially from sin and eternal damnation.

Why do we add the word 'Amen'?
To express by it our ardent desire, and also our confidence of being heard.

2nd: God doesn't lead us into temptation. It is asking for his help to deliver us from evil and not let us fall into temptation

You can believe those things if you want to twist the words. However it clearly states "GIVE us THIS DAY our DAILY BREAD". If you think that Jesus is God then his words must be pretty important and very clear.
That sentence says quite a bit. The person who is praying it is asking to do nothing and be given something, in this case bread. He is also asking that he be given this same thing over and over again every day. Jesus makes it clear here that you should ask God to feed you every single day. Ask him to give you bread.

The second sentence that you pray to God is

"Lead us not into temptation"
If you are praying that to God that means you are saying GOD lead us not into temptation. God is clearly the one that will lead you into temptation in that sentence. These are the words directly from Jesus. If you think you can come up with better words to make his point for him I would think twice if I was you.

That thread is not offensive to me in any way. It is a well placed question on what prayer really does. Not someone saying God gave me that Rocket Launcher I have been praying for to kill the infidels with.

ok...ummm it wasn't meant to be offensive to you in any way. just a thread for you to debate your points in is all.

But the Bible isn't meant to be literal about everything...I believe that's why we have so many different churches.

but that is why I posted that break down...I thought it explained things to help understand they meaning behind them to christians

That is what I said. The reason I did not go into yours is because it DOES NOT offend me in any way. You just put up a well worded question on the purpose and power of prayer.

I have enjoyed the comments on this prayer model. I believe it still go way deeper than the eye and mind 1st comprehends. Yahshua prefaced this prayer by these words. Why? Blessings of Shalom..Miles

one thing I find interesting is right before the prayer Yahshua say's''

7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Yahshua is telling the people the heathon prays to Yahweh also.Thier fault is not that they are heathons.

It is they use it as a ritual. He is saying praying is not a ritual.. But he still does hear the Heathon.

Blessings...Miles

The next part

Matt 6:8-9

8 "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
NKJV

So what is prayer for? Yahweh already knows what you need.

That is a key NEED. In another place Yahshua says.

Luke 12:6-7

6 "Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before Yahweh. 7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows .
NKJV

We are never forgotten. As a father he knows us.

Matt 7:7-12

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish , will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
NKJV

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

The Law we are told what it is all about. Yahshua says come to him. ASK talk to him. Let him know how you feel. Not in a public forum where you may think about what you should pray. In private that 1 on 1 talk. That personal relationship with Yahshua. This is the real meaning of the Law and the Prophets.

Blessings...Miles
