Has anyone ever been to Ireland? If so, how was it? If you can't tell by how many times I post relative to drinking I am Irish, and I really want to move to Ireland one day. Just wondering if anyone has been there, I know it's beautiful by the pictures I've seen.

I was there in 1980, so it's a long time now. But, the people are very friendly & the countryside is beautiful. You can easily drive around the whole island in a couple of weeks. Lot's of great B&Bs so it's not too expensive (at least not then....but the US dollar these days is so low against the Euro). I loved it! My heritage is 100% Irish & I think it's great to visit the land of your ancestors.

I want to see the entire land, so I was thinking of starting in Cork or thereabouts and moveing through to Dublin and then to Galway and move up north from there. Probably will end up living in Dublin, but want to seen the entire country first.

Just wondering if anyone has been there, I know it's beautiful by the pictures I've seen. It's a gorgeous place to visit. However, if there's one thing you DON'T wanna do it's this- Don't go to Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney Stone, despite all that "good luck" malarkey they keep telling people there. If you look carefully, there's a kind of stain that runs down the face of stone you kiss. And no- it's not from people kissing the Blarney Stone... It's from all the knights and other people from "ye olden days" who pissed on the stone. You heard me right- it was a means for those those INSIDE the castle to evacuate waste material (meaning "number 1" and "number 2") OUTSIDE the castle. In other words, it's a kind of old-school outhouse, and (as it has come to nowadays) a bad joke. It's as if the snickering from the castle caretakers and the immensely overgrown tree directly UNDER the Blarney Stone weren't enough evidence of their treachery. |

That's not far from County Clare (I think) We found a National Monument there with the Royal Tomb of the Creagh's (original spelling of my maiden name). My father always used to say he was descended from Irish kings....then we found the proof. Neat |
