A Work In Progress (Aren’t we all…)
she reads dime store philosophers and thinks music is a religion. takes her sermons from the tiny speakers of her over priced her favorite thing to say is, que sera sera though she can never let anything just be. i am her guilty pleasure, her go to her, here daddy, take this! he never seems to mind too much as long as she is appropriately dressed and on time on Sundays. he, the former deacon, the deposed parish counselor is on his second stint at Betty Ford, (this probably explains her absents) preparing for the impending litigation. three have come forward, i’m guessing there will be more, if one is inclined to believe his now estranged wife. and it looks like everyone does, donations are at an all-time high. nothing like a good sex scandal to ruffle the feathers of the flock. she used to tell her friends “i’m ****ing a poet” i guess she thought it meant something, or maybe it’s that wanted it to; either way, she gives me much to write about. until today, that is. today she knocked and like with god, i was either too smart or too dumb to answer. © kc `13 |

Core (she's a woman) she’s not a girl she’s more than that she’ll pick you up she’ll lay you down in her arms it’s all the same she gives you life and with just a look she’ll take your breath away and though she breaks she’s stronger than you’ll ever be the world’s alive and through her eyes she’ll make you see she’s not just a girl, she’s a woman no not just a girl she’s so much more from her longest lash deep to her core she’s an underrated complicated life educated diplomat she’s broken hearts started wars and brought the peace right back she knows the pain of having lived a love in vein she’s walked the walk fallen down and picked back up again she’s a tragedy a comedy and a mystery an open book for those who take the time to read under her wing love grows as if a seed she’s living proof of the saying only women bleed she’s not a girl she’s more than that from her core to her longest lash no not a girl she’s so much more from her longest lash down to her core she's a girl she’s a woman she’s so much more she loves unconditionally and this is her world kc`08 |

when they work, when we find a connection, they are about us and to us and for us. no matter when, or for whom, they were first penned.
thank you, all. |

Crush
your eyes were the first thing to ask. i was surprised at how effortlessly my smile responded. i couldn’t help but wonder; does he see the sadness that peaks out just behind the mascara, or is this something you have entrusted only to me? i wish i could give it back. every time i see you now, i wish we found it more difficult to laugh. i wish i hadn’t seen your ghost; and i wish my mind would quit treating it like a godsend. before you, i existed peacefully. since you, i subsist in my own self-indulgent mind, manufacturing reasons to be near you and inventing memories of conversations i wish we’d had. where i drink in every word that trickles across those lips. holding each syllable under my tongue, until they boil in meaning and i am forced to swallow. take it back, that look, that lingering hand on my waist; the quick whispers when nobody is paying attention. take it all back, because i can’t tell you i am the answer, i’m only now beginning to understand the question. © kc `13 |
