So yeah... my car is now making a funny noise when I turn it off.... it is almost like it sounds as though it is still on. What is up with that? I believe it is just the fan going still but why? It will last for up to 10 minutes too!
Coolant levels are fine. |

It’s commonly referred to as Dieseling or “run on.” How old is your car?

Is it a gas or a Diesel?
Gas...
Has turbo too if that helps |
Is it kind of a “ker-klunck, ker-klunck, ker-klunck” sound, followed by a short hiss?
nope... just sounds like a dang jet engine.... like the car never really shut off
sounds like a big fan is purring under the hood |
Is there a short pause and then a buzzing sound for about a minute after you shut it off?
did you use cheap gas? you must use high octane gas when having a turbo engine. i had the same issue before and i blew my motor.

Some cars have an electric cooling fan that may run for a minute or two after the car is shut down. It sounds like this car is new enough to still be under warranty. Have you taken it to the dealer yet?

dang it i didn't pay attention to how it sounded when i first shut it off.... i really don't think there is that though...
oh and i been using the same gas from same 2 stations I've always used.... except when I drove up to GA I stopped at ONE gas station there and on way back that SAME gas station |

I haven't taken it any where because it has just began to do that and I am slammed with work or classes or both everyday during the service shop's hours

When you turn off the engine, the cylinder head may still be very hot. Since the temperature sensor is mounted in the head and, coolant is no longer flowing, it will send a signal that the car is overheating. The computer will turn on the radiator fan to cool it down. This is perfectly normal. Does your car have a temperature gauge?

Beats me babe.... I do not know much about what is under the hood of my car.... not ashamed to admit it.....

Is there a gauge on the instrument cluster that tells you the engine temperature?

if it's run-on or dieseling can be caused by a few things, bad gas is one, high comprssion due to carbon build up is another. this can really only happen in old carburated cars.
is this a turbo car? it may have a 'cool down cycle' for the turbo that keeps the engine running for a few minutes to keep from burning out the seals... generally that is only an aftermarket add-on. you may want to ask a dealer. or if you shut it down right after driving it hard, the turbo may continue to spin for a bit causing noise (that's actually bad, if you're driving a turbo car hard, let it idle for a minute so the turbo can spool down and the seals don't blow). |

Is there a gauge on the instrument cluster that tells you the engine temperature? oh yeah! he he... that is fine nothing saying anything is over heated or anything |

This is perfectly normal. Does your car have a temperature gauge? I second this....You're in Florida, it's already getting warm, it's normal. My Taurus does the same thing. |
