I'm going to have to say no. Inmates on death row cost so much more than inmates in general population. In seven or eight years, they cost more than an inmate incarcerated from age eighteen until his death of natural causes.

I think they should be put to death within 24 hours, of being found guilty

Brian... If you could assure us that people would be guilty... no doubt, then I'd agree. But that would take a huge change in laws and within the mindset of our society. And much better legal standards and methods.

we had a reset case her in MO where a wife of a soldier starved there 11 month old to death..I believe she should be put through the same agony that the child went through..Death is too good for her.

i cant remember the names, but does anyone remember the story, where a boy said LET HIM HAVE IT, the boy was holding a gun, and what he said could have been took to ways, LET HIM HAVE IT, AS IN SHOOT HIM (THE POLICE), OR LET HIM HAVE IT, AS IN GIVE HIM THE GUN, if i remember right they shot him. I did this at school so im going back a long way, so i cant remember much.

If the murderer is convicted and sentenced accordingly, the sentence should be carried out. Otherwise, no. We're a society of law and at war with several societies and people that don't respect the law.
very good point

WEll this is a tough one because every now and then and inocent person does get sent to jail, however, we still have to try and trust the system for the most part. I say a person should be limited to only three apeals and 10 years to do so.. if they can't do it by then.. its time to say bye bye.. the biggest problem are those that stay on death row for 20 -30 + years doing apeal after apeal.... just waisting taxpayer money. And I agree that child molestors and murderers should be tortured first...

What about rehabilitation? Did nobody here ever steal a pack of gum as a child? If they would have cut your hand off, would you
have been rehabilitated?

I think a single life is worth the time, and trouble to change the system. They are spending 12billion dollars a month on a war. I think using that money to help change our system would help America, and American people.

Rehab for murderers... HA you think the people they killed can have rehab and everything be ok... naa don't think so... plus there is no such thing as rehab in jail... it ussually just teaches people to be better criminals, more sadistic, and racist.... prison is all about race and gang affiliation

i personally dont think people are sentanced for long enough.

one of my brothers friend ran a man over who was drunk and fell into the road, and he killed him. BUT he drove off because he had been drinking and doing drugs, and then he abandaned the car. he did 18 months, thats it. and by what i was told, being in prison wasnt bad at all.

My point is you woudn't have needed to loose your hand to learn the lesson but your hand would be gone forever

Well.. I would hope that you don't find yourself in a situation where you make a mistake and take a life!
I've come very close in my time, as a young man. I felt justified too! If it actually happened? I'm not too sure how a grand jury would have felt about it.
I also know a few people who did time for murder. One learned from their punishment, One was pardoned by the Governor, One was retried and found not guilty.

Every day we hear about a new murder victim. Most of the time the Murderer just serves time. If there is NO reasonable doubt, should the Murderer be put to Death?

I know people are affraid of this kind of topic, but, these things are happening close to home.

I say YES

Ohio has the death penalty, there's an 18 year in my area on trial for six murderers and arson, he faces the death penalty.

I don't think it's anyones place to kill another regardless of what they've done.

I think life in solitary confinement would be a much more suitable punishment.

Capital punishment is just legalized murder. If murder is wrong it shouldn't be ok either. Besides I think being executed lets the criminal off too easy. They never have to face what they have done. I guess prison isn't so bad though.

Kill one innocent person and you become the murderer.
No thank you! You want to punish somoene put them in prison the rest of there life and let them know they are not getting out.

I am not sure some murderers are able to be rehabilitated or deserve the chance to be. I worked in the prison system for 17 years and read many criminal histories and sorry, I guess I am somewhat jaded.

If they murdered a child and the proof was absolute, no chance for error, then I would put them to death.

When it comes to sex crimes, especially against children and they are murdered - and the inmate has admitted the crime --- absolutely -- they should be put to death. There is no rehabilitation or "curing" of sexual predators. It has been proven, they will repeat and repeat, no matter how many years they are in prison, how much treatment they receive, they get out and they WILL REPEAT!!!

People who commit accidental murders as in vehicular homicide, then no, I don't agree in the death penalty for them. They obviously need to pay for their crime, they were guilty of the crime, guilty of being drunk or high or whatever they did that caused them to kill the other person, but it was "accidental" and for the most part, these people, if they have a conscience, will punish themselves for the rest of their lives once released from prison.

I think each murderer needs to be looked at individually, the case needs to be studied, needs to be proven you have the correct person, not an innocent person locked up by accident, use DNA, whatever means necessary, but I would not allow them to sit on death row for 10 years while appealling their death sentence yearly. I would allow them one or two appeals only, give them those chances to get all their information together and file their appeal, if they win, then okay, but if they lose, then their punishment is carried out and they don't cost the state $1 million dollars per appeal per year plus the cost of sitting on death row. This is really a hard one because most of these inmates are really good manipulators and play the game really well, but are not rehabilitated at all, so I would be really worried about letting one of them out of prison.

I don't think rapists should get three strikes either, one is enough if they have absolute proof that he is guilty, I would lock him up and not let him out to keep raping. Why let him out and wait for him keep raping so he has to be caught two more times before the 3 strikes law can be applied.
