Well he started off as a metaphysical philosopher, although he might now be classified as an absurdist he is still a powerful figure in metaphysical philosophy as his inital views on the focus on the individual human being, responsible before the universe for the authenticity of his or her existence makes him a metaphysist, just an absurd one. Hmmm Well most of his philosophy tends to direct individuals to embrace the absurdity and nothingness of their being... thats practical, though saying its practical is a little ironic, but like Sartre he tried to find a way for humans to take Heideggers idea of understanding the ontological being by how to put it into practice. So it comes from metaphysics but isnt metaphysical Ha ha ha practical absurdity! My prof. would kill me if I said that to his face. But as I said I'm a more logical person so absurdist views on the rational world screws with my head anyway. But for the sake of arguement: In that context you could also say that Idealists are also metaphysists because they reason that the insights of the mind of the outside world explain the mind itself, so that too is metaphysical (sort of) without being from that school of thought... |

Well practicality has to do with ability to function in the world. Camus shows a way to function in the world based on his idea that existence is absurd. |
