My BF made me a copy of it so I do not have a clue. Is there a site I can down load and burn it from? And if so what is the best one to get for just basic computer stuff.

Ubuntu is a good free linux OS, just go to ubuntu.com you can order a free CD, you don't even have to pay S&H. It's a good dist. from my experience.

That's the only Linux dist. I have any experience with though.

IMO, they're worth checking out atleast.

While there is one "Linux", there are several different versions (called "distro") of it made by several companies. There's SuSE Linux, there's Red Hat Linux, there's Gentoo Linux, there's Slackware, there's Mandrake, there's Knoppix, and there's Ubuntu.

Each one is sorta different in its own way and excels/fails in different areas. In the end, it's about personal preference.

SuSE and Red Hat Linux are said to be the most popular, while Gentoo and Ubuntu are said to be the best over all. That's not to say that the others aren't any good, as they're all based on the same thing.

If you want more info on Linux, go to www.linux.org

Thank you all for your help. You guys are so great, I know I have been a pain in the ass with all my questions lately. I really am not completely computer stupid as I am making my self look. Heck I am planning on going to school for it in the fall. But there are still things I am trying to learn. So I thank you for answering my questions and not getting sick of me. I know I can be annoying at times.

I am downloading Ubuntu now.

Whisper make sure when you burn it you do it as an ISO image or it won't boot. A straight copy to cd doesn't add the boot sector. Also you can run Ubuntu of the cd without installing it and see how it works and the look and feel.drinker
