I got this in an email earlier and am not sure if it's genuine. But just in case it is, please keep this bumped up for as long as possible

Subject: Virus Alert

Hi.... checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!
I checked snopes.com, and it is for real!!
Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!
You should be alert during the next few days.
Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you.
It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list.
This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called 'POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.

yes, but it doesn't function in the way tom's email said it did...it downloads a trojan onto your computer which then uses your computer for other things.

it does NOT "burn the hard disc c" or "destroy the zero sector" of your computer.

I didn't say that it did. I just copied and pasted the mail as I received it.
But just in case it does contain a Trojan: I can recommend installing

SpyBot Search and Destroy
HOsted by Safer Networking
version 1,51

This is free to install unless you want to upgrade, which is well worth it.
If you run it once a week, it should protect your hard drive against these threats. flowerforyou drinker flowerforyou

Ad-Aware is a slightly better program which is also free, another alternative is Trend Micro's Housecall which is a completly free thorough online scan (yes it also removes what it can).

That's tuff if you cannot run an anti virus? But I also recommend spybot ware search and destroy. It is good.

Google Trend Micro Housecall, if that doesn't work try Panda Activescan (this won't remove them but will tell you what you have). If all else fails figure out what you have and do some research on how to remove it via the registry, you can also try Hijack This and post the log at a forum that helps with windows security issues. You have many options, figure out the best apporoach and take it.
