i applied to be a volunteer fire fighter about a month ago, and the fire fighters are supposed to vote on whether or not they want me in next monday.
my question is this; how incredibly hard is the training? im afraid i wont be able to make it through, and thats my biggest fear, cause my uncle is the chief and i dont want to disappoint him.

I wouldn't know, but if I was to join, I would start practicing by caring something (30 pounds or up) and run up and down the stairs with it.

I am just imaginng that a firefighter must carry a heavy hose and run with it up stairs to get rid of a fire.

I think being in shape is a benefit! I am sure that someone on here is a actual firefighter or had experience and can give you a heads up. If not ask your uncle what can you already study or do to get a head start with the training.

well when i went through it

in the 70s

had to climb ladder straight up one side and down the other (held by 4 ropes and fellow firefighter)

had to be able to find and pull a dummy out of a fake smoke filled building in a scott pak

learn proper hose manipulation

do a fireman carry do not remember how far maybe 50 feet

nothing you probably can not handle if you are in decent physical condition

good luck

and they may have changed since then

nd each dept may vary as well

I know my boss is trying to become a firefighter and she says its hard. She is visiting a personal trainer 3 times a week to build up muscle but the interviews are worse... but thats where we live every state is different.

The requirements should have been posted with the job. That way sexual discrimination lawsuits can't get off the ground.

The job requirements must be valid for the job. They used to ask linemen for the power companies to have a certain IQ score. Well, IQ is a measurment to tell if you'll make it through college. They through out that requirement.

You're probably looking at if you can carry a certain amount of hose, if you can climb over a wall in a certain amount of time. Things like that. Look at the job posting.
