Llamas are good watch dogs, their hair is worth some money, llamas are also pack animals like mules and sutch and can carry a good load.A freind of mine has 4 of them and I have helped work with them at times and they can be more loyal than dogs and have a inbred hatered for anything like dogs or cyoteis

Coyotes, you mean?

Yea.. They do make packs for them.. and their owners, at least here and in Northern California, seem to think they own the trails and wilderness they go into. I know there are exceptions, but my experience with them left me disgusted. Many of the Rangers I know out there feel the same. For some reason.. those animals do not pack out trash.. just bring it in.

I was a pack guide for a few years. When I saw llama's I usually tried to take an alternate route or set up camp far far away... When they saw me? They always seemed to want to pull in right next to me. As if we were in a KOA campground next to the freeway and both driving motor homes.

Mules and horses do not like llama's. So... I was not above letting a few of my herd loose to go interact with the llama's... on the occasion that the llama owners would not take the hint about there being several hundred other lakes or streams in the area...

Llama's are not one of my favorite animals. They tend to be mean and can hold grudges too. My impression, most likely has nothing to do with the animals themselves though.. More to do with the owners.
