dating someone who has scars on their wrists from a suicide attempt fairly recently (within 6 months)?

just to point out, a lot of people self harm, for relief of there mental pain. seeing the blood dripping out takes your problems away, it takes your problems away maybe for a few days, and then you do it again, its a vicious circle. most people who cut ARNT trying to kill themself, its just there way of coping. i know this, im sure you get my point without me going into great detail about my life.

Cutting yourself isn't always an attempt at suicide. It is also a release from problems you have. Some see it as better to do it to myself than to someone else.So ye i would be comfortable dating someone who has scars from doin it.Why?Cause in my younger days i did it and still carry some of the scars and know what it's about and how to deal with it

ken, what you just said, is exactly how i feel and what i would say. you know about me, and i totally understand what your saying. i wish people knew just because your cutting, it DOESNT MEAN YOUR TRYING TO KILL YOURSELF.

I would have to honestly assess a few things 1. Was the suicide attempt some ridiculous ploy at manipulation and attention seeking
2. were they working some sort of program to get better
3. Was this a constant battle they fought within

Honestly I would feel sorry for the tortured soul but I have a daughter to think of and do I want that drama up in my life?? The answer would prob be no , I don't know too many wrist cutters that seriously wanted to die ..

hi, just to point out.

most people who cut ARE NOT trying to kill themself, they are doing it as a way of coping, and its a form of relief, seeing the blood dripping coming OUT your body, also takes your problems OUT your body, but only for a certain amount of time. some a few days, others a few weeks. totally dpends on the person.
If you have borderline personality disorder - and a lot of folks that cut do ... then I would have to say that I would not want that around my child .. she does not need all that black and white drama in her life .. and the question was suicide attempt .. and if someone is cutting they should seek help .. and learn better coping skills .. that is not acceptable in my book ..

i see what your saying, if i had children i wouldnt want them to see that. but i know people who have had lots of help and meds, and they just cant stop doing it, its there only way of coping. mental health workers now say if your going to cut use something sterile etc, if there going to do it regardless, at least there told things that would prevent further problems, like infections. for some people they will do it there whole life.
