Brian, I know what you mean. I think balance is tough at times. I think in all relationships there are times you do one or the other more, but if you give and give then I think it's easy to resent after awhile.

Both, because thats the way I was raised:smile:

Do you have relationships/friendships that lean one way or the other?

In both ,I am mostly a giver. Always have been there for people, always willing to help & it comes back to me.

I'm a giver

I love to spoil the one I'm with

Do you ever give more than you can afford to lose? (Not in a financial sense)

only If I feel I'm overdoing it, and she doesn't appreciate it

been there, done that flowerforyou

yep

I'm definitely a giver; I have an almost pathological need to feel that I'm taking care of someone. Psychologically, I'm what's considered a "rescuer." Practically everyone I know has said to me, at some point, "You're always taking care of other people's needs, now what about your own?" But my own are simple, and not all the sort of thing that anyone else needs to spend a lot of time on.

One of the strange things about my relationship with Gem is that she's as much of a giver as I am, so we've both had to work on the whole thing of accepting the "taker" role, at least for specific occasions. It's a little different, but some time seeing things from the "other side" isn't a bad thing....

I think there are times where we take without knowing. And times when we think we are giving when we aren't.

Anyone care to admit that?

so true Lilith

my ex of eight years never appreciated anything

I bought her diamond earrings, but they were'nt big enough (no joke)

I told her how beautiful she was, she said "I know", instead of "thank you"

man, in a case of LOVE IS BLIND, I found out the meaning of it

Brian.... I think that sucks. On the up and up, at least you're out of it now.

I think lately I've been pretty guilty of taking...

there's nothing wrong with taking, really

just depends on who it's with and what kind of feelings are there

Good point. I appreciate being told when it happens, especially when it is totally unintentional.

Are you a giver or a taker in life and love... and why?

I am a giver,..... but, sometimes we can take something,...really in love we have to be a giver and a taker,...it makes sense to the word LOVE.flowerforyou

Yes, we should. I think that in most cases we need a balance, and that you need to start out any relationship with it. There are times when that is easier said than done, though.... and when things lean too far one way then how do you get it back in check?

One of my best friends told me that I was attracted to women with problems, because I've always helped out & try to solve problems!! Judging by the bad marriage I had , I tend to beleive he is rite.. ( she did have alot of problems that wound up ruining us) ohwell
