NSFW: VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. As an expert witness in the defense of an Abu Ghraib guard who was court-martialed, psychologist Philip Zimbardo had access to many of the images of abuse that were taken by the guards themselves. For a presentation at the TED conference in Monterey, California, Zimbardo assembled some of these pictures into a short video. Wired.com obtained the video from Zimbardo's talk, and is publishing some of the stills from that video here. Many of the images are explicit and gruesome, depicting nudity, degradation, simulated sex acts and guards posing with decaying corpses. Viewer discretion is advised.

Scott Higham and Joe Stephens, "Punishment and Amusement. Documents Indicate 3 Photos Were Not Staged for Interrogation," Washington Post, May 22, 2004: Documents, which include "statements by four of the seven MPs now charged in the abuse scandal ... provide new insights into the unfolding case [and] contain tantalizing hints about the role of military intelligence officers who operated in the shadows of Tier 1A at the prison." Also see Leonard Downie, Jr., Iraq: New Abuse Details (Transcript), Washington Post, May 21, 2004.
Josh White, Christian Davenport and Scott Higham, "Videos Amplify Picture of Violence," Washington Post, May 21, 2004:
"In a collection of hundreds of so-far-unreleased photographs and short digital videos obtained by The Washington Post, U.S. soldiers are shown physically and emotionally abusing detainees last fall in the Abu Ghraib prison on the outskirts of Baghdad.
"The new pictures and videos go beyond the photos previously released to the public in several ways, amplifying the overt violence against detainees and displaying a variety of abusive techniques previously unseen. They show a group of apparently cavalier soldiers assaulting prisoners, forcing detainees to masturbate, and standing over a naked prisoner while holding a shotgun. Some of the videos echo scenes in previously released still photographs -- such as the stacking of naked detainees -- but the video images render the incidents more vividly."

Philip Kennicott, "A Wretched New Picture Of America. Photos From Iraq Prison Show We Are Our Own Worst Enemy," Washington Post, May 6, 2004:
"But now we have photos that have gone to the ends of the Earth, and painted brilliantly and indelibly, an image of America that could remain with us for years, perhaps decades. An Army investigative report reveals that we have stripped young men (whom we purported to liberate) of their clothing and their dignity; we have forced them to make pyramids of flesh, as if they were children; we have made them masturbate in front of their captors and cameras; forced them to simulate sexual acts; threatened prisoners with rape and sodomized at least one; beaten them; and turned dogs upon them.
"There are now images of men in the Muslim world looking at these images. On the streets of Cairo, men pore over a newspaper. An icon appears on the front page: a hooded man, in a rug-like poncho, standing with his arms out like Christ, wires attached to the hands. He is faceless. This is now the image of the war. In this country, perhaps it will have some competition from the statue of Saddam Hussein being toppled. Everywhere else, everywhere America is hated (and that's a very large part of this globe), the hooded, wired, faceless man of Abu Ghraib is this war's new mascot."

In reference to the topic...laugh ...The great liberal and sexual harrasser William Jefferson Clinton shot a bunch of missiles and hit three donkeys, six empty tents, an afghan families laundry, and two camels in the butt and said "Boy, I taught them a lesson." At least Bush did something that got their attention; even if it did turn the stomachs of the weak-kneed liberals. Bush at least has balls, Clinton's were just sucked dry by his female employees.laugh laugh laugh laugh

I disagree, only fools rush in, wise men choose their battles. Baby shrub is an idiot and he has attempted to make us all idiots with him. I for one will not follow down the idiotic path of a fool.

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — Army Pfc. Lynndie England, whose smiling poses in photos of detainee abuse at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison made her the face of the scandal, was convicted Monday by a military jury on six of seven counts.

In the latest Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse court martial, former Army Staff Sgt. Ivan Frederick has pled guilty under a pretrial agreement to conspiracy, dereliction of duty, maltreatment of detainees, assault, and indecent acts. Military Judge Col. James Pohl, U.S. Army, sentenced Frederick to 10 years confinement, reduced to eight years under Frederick’s pretrial agreement, along with reduction in rank to private, loss of pay and allowances, and dishonorable discharge. While previous convictions of Jeremy Sivits and Armin Cruz were before special courts martial for which the maximum possible confinement was one year, Frederick was tried before a general court martial without such a restriction.

What is so disturbing about Abu Ghraib? When you deal with animals they do not understand humane methods. They need to be treated like they treat us. Better the Americans got a hold of them than the Israelis.... Now the Israelis now how to treat Arab animals....

now show them pictures of what they do to us when we get captured.....

moral high ground...

Amen Rob! you are so correct! If someone would just happen into any thread posted by him, that person would never know that this is supposed to be forums on a dating site. He makes it out to be an all political bash Bush thing! His opinion is to be shoved down all our throats. He is right no matter what. He is soooo perfect. He makes $22 hr! He has this, he has that! You know what? I do not give a rat's butt!!!! He is no better or worse than I am. He does not have any idea of how to go in another thread and just talk to women. You are right Rob, all he wants to do is post liberal crap. Copy & paste and put links for people to click on that he thinks is 100% iron clad proof of whatever he is saying. He has all the answers and tries to make "Drivinmenutz" out to be someone who doesn't know diddely squat! Well Drivinmenutz DOES know what he is talking about for he has first hand knowledge, a lot more than Mr. Know it all has! I am a veteran, having served in Vietnam and I am totally on Drivinmenutz's side in this. Do I agree with the war in Iraq? Not entirely, but one thing is for sure. I support our President and I definitely will always support our troops!!!! Watch Mr. know it all, machoman, the good life $22 hr., cut/paste man jump on me now. I couldn't care less. I won't get into a war of words with someone who seems to be so anti-American military!

then why post?
