the other thing I want to point out is that posting in this topic is completely voluntary. If you say "why should we be rated?" then why post here at all? Posting implies that you wish to be rated.

I personally don't and would not post my profile for review.

Your profile is pretty good, hikerchick!

well, aren't you sweet.

I was aiming for "smartarse", which would explain my current life situation...

you just like my lips. I am sure you never even looked at my profile! laugh

here here! people that have the desperate need to constantly ask people if they are cute or not hot or not whatever need to get some self confidence. desperation is not sexy.

OK, but you're kind of missing the point. One advantage of the internet is that with the added anonymity and lack of repercussions, people are sometimes much more honest than people are face to face. Of course, given that some people have no manners when they're online, this can also be a pretty serious drawback. Still, haven't you ever wanted to know what people think of your looks/writing when they aren't being simply rude or polite?

Besides, a lot of us aren't here "only here to see", nor, evidently, are you, given what your profile says. Given the inherent bias of being the author and liking the way you speak, it can be pretty helpful to know how it looks to others.

Why, thank you, Hikerchick. I'm flattered. Too bad you don't live closer, I know a lot of great trails in my area.

I can't even get a credit rating, why on earth would I want a profile rating?

Why would I want complete strangers to give me their pop psychology spin on who they think I am???

Do I need insecure pills or something?

No, but reading posts above yours before replying would be a nice habit to get into.

You weren't directing it to me...

but thanks for the driving lesson on how to steer my way round this site, having been here for ALMOST a year...and having a gazillion posts, anyone would think I am a newbie...

I'm not big on other people's version of nice anyways...

As this is a dating site, a certain amount of "notice me" is to be expected.

As far as mass attention goes, there are two ways to obtain that here -- the forums and the profile. I personally put much more weight on the forum postings, as they tend to give a lot more insight, over time and over many topics, than a profile, which often says little or nothing about a person, and which often remains unchanged and un-updated for months or years at a time.

But some people don't post in the forums, and some who do are unable to communicate effectively here. For them, the profile might be the only way they can make any sort of "impression" here, and "Rate My Profile" is designed to provide everyone an opportunity to ask for profile views and comments.

I'm not saying it's perfect -- there are people who seem to feel the need to ask to be viewed and rated on a daily basis, others who ask to be rated but only want approval and high ratings (deserved or not), and not constructive criticism.

Hey, it's a dating site.

You always have the option to remove the "Rate My Profile" forum from your forum list, using the customization feature.
