I loved the episode where he had Ambassador Andrew Young as guest-

Colbert was narrating that story about the nursing strike that happened in South Carolina in the late sixties. He went on about how racial tensions were really high (most of the nurses fighting for better wages were African-American) and that everything was coming off the heels of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination. He also brought up the newly-hired director of the hospital, who with Young, had hammered out an agreement that got everybody what they wanted.

The whole story was done totally serious with NO schtick...

... until it was exposed that the "newly-hired hospital director" was Colbert's father. Even better was the pic of the elder Colbert they showed- it had a six year-old Stephen right next to him.

Comedy classic.
