Topic: AP Poll: Exiting Iraq would boost economy more than stimulus

If you can't buy the results of the liberal bias in the media you can't take this poll as being true as well.
The Ap though being part of the corperate rat media does have a good reputation for conducting polls unlike the catholick university you used as a source, however I am open to honest argument that the poll is inacurate

Oh I'm sure that the poll itself is accurate in the sense that those 1,006 people do actually believe that all those things will solve the economy problem. I'm just arguing that those people have no idea what they're talking about.
Honestly, my low opinion of the common citizen in the United States is fairly well backed up by the facts. A gallup poll shows that only 79% of Americans know that the Earth revolves around the sun, and only 76% knew that we gained our independence from England. There are a plethora of studies which point out the ineptitude of young American's geography, particularly among younger people. The list goes on, as I'm sure you know. The economy is exponentially more complex than geography or basic historical fact.

Of everyone, I thought you would have the strongest grasp on what a terrible knowledge base our average citizenry has.

After arguing with some of the snakehandling flat earthers on this forum I have begun to doubt my fellow americans but its odd that most everyone I know are fairly bright even my co workers. But I suppose if you interview some people who are economicly depressed and have been for generations i am sure you can get all sorts of answers and none of them correct. I cant imagine how life would be if you didnt even know the earth orbited the sun.......evangelical Christian?

Only around 29% of the country has a bachelor's degree from college, and only 75% or so have even graduated high school. The dearth of knowledge for an average citizen is astounding. Seriously.

Sorry, boys, your missin' a point! People are starting to wake up and take notice! It does not do anyone any good to discourage that! You, and your generation, should be shouting from roof tops that everybody needs to take notice, pay attention to what is being said to you by those persons that you think have your countries best interest at heart. Because if you just say "Don't go with your gut, leave it to the experts, they know best!", and "Who cares what a bunch of un-educated Hillbillies think!", then we are screwed!!!!

Thanks, guys! This is fun! No discussions like this on the other site I usually post. Oh, and please, if ya can tell me how to do spellcheck or make adjustments, I'd really appreciate it! Nan

PS You do not really learn that much in school and most of what you do learn is a biased presentation! My father had an 8th grade education and I promise you he could do accounting as good as a CPA. It's called the school of hard knocks!

I am glad your enjoying the conversations, they seem to be fun and informative. I would be the last person to help with spell checks but there are many talented secretaries on this forum that I am sure could help you

First, as you're typing in the post it automatically spell checks by putting a read underline beneath anything spelled wrong. Or at least it does for me, maybe it's google toolbar or something, I'm not sure. If you want to go back and edit a post, once you've posted there is a blue button next to your post that says "edit".

About your post...I wasn't trying to argue that we need to sit back blindly and let the government and/or "experts" have free reign. Rather, I was saying that it is a poor argument that because 1,006 random people say that a slew of arbitrary issues are the solution for the receding economy, the government should somehow necessarily follow that approach.

I'm not trying to argue with you either. I think of it as discussing and I hope you will, too!
I don't get the blue line. I don't think I have spellcheck! But, thanks for trying to help! Bad spelling is sort of a peeve! Nan

Thanks, Madisonman, for being encouraging! Nan

Nah, I was only using the word argue in the sense that I was putting forth an argument for a certain position, nothing to do with the contentious interpretation of the word.

I have been known to get on a rant every now and then! It was fun!

Good video, but that deals more with social constructs than news sources, really. Because despite that "what is real is you, and inside of you", it's still impossible for people to get their news firsthand. And although newspapers are a bit better than television media outlets, there will always be bias.

Exiting Iraq would save a lot of money and lives, but the stimulus package is just a delaying tactic to side track the real problem of getting rid of the federal reserve ,which we will have to come to eventually. Did you ever wonder if we beat England in the revolutionary war, then how come we were fighting them again in the WAR of 1812 about 20 years later??And they burned our Capital down in Washinton dc(district of criminals) Hey, let me say :IT was that: they were after our banking system. Why was Abraham Lincoln killed? He wanted to have US money system. Why was Andrew Jackson killed , He too wanted a US money system, Why was JFK killed , same thing he want a US money system. Hey PEOPLE WE have never really had our REPUBLIC YET: BUT WE ARE GOING TO GET IT SOON WHEN WE GET RID OF (ENGLAND"S) the federal reserve fraud system!!! Thank you for letting me think out so LOUD!!!drinker laugh laugh
