I'd recommend a book called "Stumbling on Happiness" which covers alot of this sort of material, how the brain interprets and predicts certain things and ultimately how that relates to personal sense of happiness.
A particular instance of this is the fact that your brain has an uncanny sense of prediction when it comes to reading. Often, you will be predicting the next word or phrase before you actually read it. When you insert something avocado crazy out of nowhere, your brain skips a bit, almost like a CD, because it wasn't predicting that. |
