Was told that my CPU precentage should be at like 2-4%, but my MSN takes it up to almost 50%. And when I turn my cam on it takes it up to almost 100% and slows my whole computer down to the point that a snail moves faster. Even makes my downloaded music skip. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I have done scans and cleared out all my temp files and all that blah, blah, blah. I am at a lost here.

Ok, close out msn messenger. Then look through the list of running programs and terminate the msn messenger program that's sucking up cpu time. Then restart msn messenger and you should be good.

at an "idle" your cpu usage should be 2-4%. the more stuff you get going on..the more processor you use. My yahoo im kicks me up to about 70%. Only solution I know is to get more ram, or upgrade to a faster computer, or go multi processor on a new one

Some programs suffer from some really bad memory leakage, like Mozilla Firefox and even Windows itself. Short of the devs coding the bugs out of their code, there's really no way to try to combat it.

The big memory leak offender at the moment is Firefox, which will chew up up to 400 Megs of memory after a couple of hours of usage. It's SO bad at it, that the Mozilla people decided to wipe the bug out once-and-for-all with version 3 of FF, which isn't due to be out of beta state until sometime later this year.
