i have got a question. i have a 4 year old sonn to be 5 and he goes to his dads for a week and then he comes back to me for a week. this week i don't know what his problem was because he would not listen to me he would act up in pub;ic places and just be plain out mean. i hate to spank him becasue i don't want people to think i am abusing my child becasue i would not ever do that i love him to much so i don't know what to do. any body have any suggestions.

why are you mad

time outs or take something he likes away no rewards

maybe his dad is doing something to him at the home yelling at him and such
maybe the babies acting out to tell you he dont want to go to his fathers he wants to stay with you

you are his life suport not the dad

that only makes it worse when i was little and my mom did that to me it only made me act out more

i was kind of thinking that myself because he always says he dosen't want to go to his dads.

I am speaking from both sides of the fence here, as both a child of divorce and a parent of divorce. Did something go on at his dad's house to upset the routine? Is there a new woman in dad's life? If there is does she have kids? Is there any reason to suspect that dad is abusive? It could just be that your child was tired and cranky, or sick and cranky, but there could be something going on at dad's that is making him unhappy and 4 years olds just communicate that something is wrong as easily as older kids can.
