today i saw an angel
as i caught the evening train
she sat down right next to me
her clothes wet from the rain

as she sat and combed her hair
her hair like fine spun gold
she talked about an old man
and the stories that he told


she said he went to classrooms
filled with little kids
and sat down right beside them
and played like .. children did

he'd sit and tell them stories
of how life use to be
and sometimes he'd draw pictures
so maybe they could see

the main thing that he taught them
well that was about love
to be kind to others
to trust the lord above

as she went on with her story
i realized it was me
the one that she'd been telling of
how could this ever be

she went on with her story
and told me god was pleased
and soon i'd know his glory
as she lightly touch my knee


today i passed away
as the train rolled down the track
today i saw an angel
and i wont be coming back.....
