Had several cats over the years and one of the most common reasons for cats/most animals displaying this kind of behavior is due to being stressed to a major change in their routine/life. Separation anxiety is another instance where animals will display this behavior. Animals that want/need attention will take it good or bad. Try putting the litter box in the bathroom showing the cat where the box has been moved to and put cat in the litter even if they get out of box they now have associated them self with the box and bathroom. The bathroom is a good choice for a couple reasons tile floor makes it easy cleaning for accidents and litter that gets stuck to paws and because the bathroom is a typically smaller
room it makes cleanup easy as well. Most litter boxes will fit between toilet and the vanity if you have the room between them this keeps it out of the way as well.

If you don't notice that cat really having loud meow's then I would say not medical and because the cat is not yours....it could be trying to mark territory because of other cats. I have had as many as 29 in my colony at one time....very typical cat thing to do. Also depending on age of cat I would check with the vet and make sure no kidney disease.....

Other then that......all you can do is confine with food water and liter box.....Also when your first introducing a cat into a new home, you must literally take them and place them in the liter box until they know exactly where it is. And if multiple cats are using the box.....get the liter for multiple cat users.

I myself train all my cats to use toilet.....its so easy and no Ohhhhhhhh liter box.......Or all my ferals go outside.....Good luck and e-mail me if you need to Johncarl.

cats dont adjust to change well, maybe it's just confused, or acting out cause of that.

I (actually, when I was a we)--had a cat who had to be put on the equivilant sp? of kitty Valiums, to overcome problems. I hope your cat isn't getting sick. Our's was and it was sad he had to be put to sleep. He had other problems, as well, though. This cat was only two, but short legged and kept gaining weight til he was very heavy, despite food restriction; no diagnosis found. He wouldn't move and that was both before and after the pills, to help him. I bawled like a baby, but he was in pain. If that is your cat in the pic., it looks quite healthy. The kitty tranquilizers may help, if the problem doesn't reslove itself. Fortunately, it was never in the bed..oh my gosh!
