I think they are little advertisements. I wish there was something we could say or do to make them go away but I guess they help keep this a free site.

It's just a test. Start clicking the top ads and they won't need to put them all over the site. IMO, I think we should all click an ad now and then as a way of "donating" to the site. It's alot of work, and can be expensive to run a site.
