I used to break horses. I never had enough time in the day to ride all the horses in the barn so I had head lamps and rode nearly nightly. It is so quiet and peaceful then. I owned several TN Walking mares. I had them bred to high quality spotted walking horse, a cremelo(to sorrel to get pals) or world grand champions. It was either breeding for color or the best of the best. I sold one colt at 4 months old for $8K but the stud fee was $5K as it was out of Pusher(I bought the mare in foal). When breeding to the high dollar studs it was all about knowing the flaws of your mare and trying to use a stud that would over ride these. Like The Touch did not have much heart but was a very good walking horse would only be bred to a mare with alot of heart. I never made this pairing but anyone who knows walking horses and was at the show when the Touch won knew it was the shortest work out ever to crown the WGC. My back injury took me out of the business and finally my farm. But what else do you wish to talk about on this topic. I have broke horses, shown horses, and raised 2 WC 2 year olds and one became a WC 3 year old(both of these sold as colts). If it is walking horses I know the blood lines and even within reason the colors possible from breeding 2 horses together. |
