You would be so wrong. Assumptions.

Research how many die every year due to flu. And the ages of such.

I myself was hospitalized for about three days once a few years ago. I felt like I was going to die.

Children die from it as well.

from the CDC
As of August 6, 2007, among persons aged <18 years, a total of 68 deaths associated with influenza infections occurring during October 1, 2006-May 19, 2007, were reported to CDC.

Of these, 10 were <6 months, 10 were 6-23 months, 9 were 2-4 years, and 39 were 5-17 years of age.

The CDC website also says the mortality rate for Pneumonia and Flu is about 7%, I think we can safely say most of that is Pneumonia, and mostly older folks.

The flu, by nature, is not very virulent. We do continue to make it more virulent, however, by fighting against the weakest, most common strains.

You can argue all you want but the flu does kill. It can espeically kill people whose immune systems are'nt that
good. It can kill young and old alike and even people my age.
You obviousely have never had a bad case of the flu that put you in the hospital. I would not wish that on anyone.
I for one will allways get the shot- because without it-
I would probbley not be here. The flu deaths are going down because of these shots. You need to do further research...

I understand the flu can kill, but generally only the young, the old, or those with other conditions that are injurious to their immune systems. Those of us who are between 10 and 60 with healthy immune systems are just hurting them by getting flu shots. Do you understand the evolution of infectious disease, how virulence evolves, etc?

I'm not trying to be a pain in the a$$, honestly, but I do understand the science.

Why do you think you never got sick from the vaccine before, but now you do? Because they are vaccinating you against a stronger strain because that is what we are helping evolve laugh

I've gotten my flu shot

years from the VA and
haven't gotten sick
either of those times.

Must have gotten lucky.

I agree with you Teddy. I have been getting the shot for several years, normally get bronchitis yearly, found that if I get the shot, my bronchitis is milder, if I miss the shot, my bronchitis is much more severe and I am sick much longer.

Zach - you state that pneumonia kills people - how many of these people started out with the flu and it turned into pneumonia??

Some people do get side effects from the shot, but all in all, I do believe it is a good preventative for most people, especially if they have an illness of any kind, i.e., asthma, COPD, heart disease, or some other chronic illness going on.
