It focused about the many ISM's of our culture. Sexism, Racism, and now
lookism. Two women were used to prove a point. Both women were given
the same credentials. But only one woman was given the job. The most
attractive one. Because she fit the interviews notion of a more
productive person based on her looks.

Ghost - of course, image is a factor, and not a good one as you say. We
are blasted by it daily on TV. Little kids see it and start developing
eating disorders at a younger and younger age, and boys are now becoming
anorexic, too (read that somewhere a while back) where it was always
considered a female issue.

But, someone can also be drop dead gorgeous and a total dud on the
inside, no personality, rude and nasty to others, etc.

I think you need to look at the whole package. If you care about the
person and the good outweighs the bad you can overlook certain flaws,
otherwise you walk the other way.

The problem is hun. That I have seen also a lot of Unattractive ppl who
have many issues. Least of them is attractiveness. They tend to focus
their attention on other ppl who don't give them attention so they
project their problems on those ppl. Instreadof focusing on their own
issues. In other words, they make their problems other ppl's problems.
Mostly for negative attention.

IAM - I like your ideas for the post topics, there are lots of topics
out there that can be discussed.

I also don't think that someone stating their likes or dislikes is
necessarily offensive to other people, I guess it depends on how their
opinions are stated. We are adults on here and how else do we learn
about each other unless we talk about likes and dislikes, just need to
do it in a way that does not make the other person feel attacked or put
down. I think you are sensitive to the feelings of people on here and
you think before you talk.

Ghost - good point, hadn't thought about that side of the coin.

I agree, it should be the "whole person" but it is not in our world. I
am a small woman (larger than my mother or father), I dress well, walk
like I know it all... and that sends a message that I am not
"approachable"... yet I am the one that people avoid.
And from the inside, you don't know, I had 4 c-sections that destroyed
my stomach, my mother told me I was useless... on and on... whatever..
we are all so very much alike... we just look different (and thank
goodness for that) !!!!!!!

Roses, I know what you mean. I have seen that too. In my work, I work
with doctors now, and it is a small town so they are friendly and dress
more casual, some are more formal and unfriendly, but most call me by my
first name, etc., but in a big city it would be totally different.

When I worked in the prison system, I saw a lot of attorneys, and higher
ups in the system, they mostly seemed unapproachable, but I took the
time to get to know some of them and made some good friends. I think we
need to take time and make an effort to meet people, and not judge them
on their outward appearance, if I hadn't I would have missed out on some
great friendships.

Gee, did we have the same mom?

MARIE YOUR PROBABLY RIGHT ON MY TRACK,LOL

I JUST GET SO TIRED IN LIFE, OF ISSUES OF ANY KIND,

THAT WILL OR COULD, GIVE FUEL TO THE MANY WHO BELIEVE

THAT "THEY" ARE BETTER THAN ANOTHER, OR MORE "NORMAL" THAN

SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT "THEIR" NOT OVER-WEIGHT.

OR THAT "THEIR" NOT ON ANY "MEDS".

OR THAT "THEIR" NOT "UGLY"..

I JUST DISLIKE TOPIC'S THAT WILL TAKE MINDS INTO THINGS

THAT ALOT OF PPS HERE MIGHT SUFFER FROM, AND "THEY"" CANNOT

CHANGE THE WAY "THEY-ARE"......

SO IT JUST "REMINDS" THEM OF MORE NEGITIVE INNER THOUGHTS

OF THEM SELVES, THAT "SOME" ARE ALL READY "OVER-LOADED" ON

ALREADY, SO SIMPLY, I DON'T LIKE NEGITIVE THREADS!!

BUT "THIS" IS JUST 'MY' OPINION!!!!!

IAM - I agree with you, way too much negativity in real life, I like to
come on here to get away from it, and tend to avoid the negative threads
as much as possible.

Good point.

Roses - don't thank me, I thank them for letting me get to know them. I
met some really special people by just ignoring the "unapproachable
barriers" they may have presented, and by walking on up and starting to
talk to them. Guess I just like to talk too, so that helps.

Way too much fun for me - and it is cutting into my "work" time, I need
to stop fooling around and get to work.

Seriously, I am in full agreement with your idea on more positive topics
and working hard to not offend other people. We are out here to make
friends, not hurt each other.

Take care.
